Rideshare insurance, explained
Georgia sets minimum insurance for rideshare companies based on the driver's status in the app.

The three stages
| Driver's status | Minimum coverage (Georgia) |
|---|---|
| App off | Driver's personal policy |
| Logged in, waiting for a request | $50,000 per person / $100,000 per crash bodily injury, $25,000 property damage |
| Ride accepted through drop-off | $1,000,000 for death, bodily injury and property damage |
These are minimums. The policies in place may be higher.
Uninsured and underinsured coverage
If the at-fault driver has no insurance or not enough, uninsured/underinsured (UM) coverage may apply. It can come from your own policy, a household member's policy, or in some cases a policy covering the rideshare trip.
Why the trip data matters
The insurer's position often depends on timestamps in the app. We ask for the driver's status at the exact time of the crash, so no one can argue the trip had "already ended" or "hadn't started."
Before you sign: Don't sign a release or accept a check from any insurer until you know what every policy covers.
