Hurt as an Uber or Lyft passenger
As a passenger, you almost never caused the crash. The question is which insurance pays, and how much.

Who pays when you're the passenger
When a ride was in progress, the rideshare company's insurance is generally required to provide at least $1,000,000 in liability coverage. If your driver caused the crash, that policy is usually the main source of recovery. If another driver caused it, their insurance comes first, and other policies may help if theirs isn't enough.
| Who caused the crash | Where we usually look first |
|---|---|
| Your rideshare driver | The rideshare company's policy covering the trip |
| Another driver | That driver's insurance, then uninsured/underinsured coverage that may apply |
| Both drivers | All of the above. Fault is shared between them, not you. |

- Screenshot the trip receipt, the route, the driver's name and the car
- Keep messages with the driver or support
- Note the exact time of the crash
Your injuries come first
Get checked the same day if you can. Passengers often hit the seat in front or the door, and neck, back and head injuries can show up later. Keep every bill and record.
What you may recover
Medical bills, lost wages, future care, and pain and suffering. Every case is different; we explain what yours may include.
